About Phrygia Valley

The region, defined as the mountainous settlement of "Phrygia Epictetus" (Lesser Phrygia) in the triangle of Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar and Eskişehir, is today known as the "Phrygia Valley". The area within the provincial borders, starting from Yeni Bosna Village, 7 kilometers away from the center, and extending along the east of the province to Ovacık Village, 54 kilometers away from Kütahya; It covers the northern part where Sabuncupınar, Söğüt, İnli, Sökmen, Fındık and İncik caves are located, and Ovacık village, İnlice District and its surroundings further south.

The Phrygia plateaus, covered with the tuffs of the Türkmen Mountain, an ancient volcano in the east of Kütahya; B.C. It was inhabited by Phrygians between 900-600 BC. The fact that volcanic tuff is an easily workable rock enabled the Phrygians to use it for various purposes by carving and carving. Open-air temples, altars and rock tombs dedicated to the mother goddess Kybele and many structures for defense and shelter have survived from that period. In the churches and chapels in the region, where Romans and Byzantines later settled, painted crosses, meander motifs, traces of writing and frescoes can still be seen. There are natural castles called "Deliktaş Castle" and "Penteser Castle", which were carved into rocks by the Phrygians and Byzantines.

Although the Phrygians were of Indo-European origin, they became Anatolian in a short time, and although they were under Ionian and Late Hittite influences, they created a unique and Anatolian culture. The works produced by the Phrygians in mining, woodworking and weaving were appreciated in the Ionian market and were imitated by these masters. Spools, bronze plates with handles and bronze cauldrons; spring-loaded safety pins (fibulas) made of gold, silver and bronze, which were a "technological" achievement of the period; garment belts, buckles and richly decorated textiles made of precious metals; Furniture decorated with geometric patterns is among these. The rug art called Topates influenced the rug and carpet arts of later Anatolian civilizations. The region is an interesting untouched region covered with pine forests as well as a natural rock structure reminiscent of Phrygia Valley.

Hot air balloons use liquid propane to heat the air. When the air is heated, its density decreases and it fills the dome and lifts the balloon up.

The flight route of hot air balloons is determined by the wind. Pilots cannot direct hot air balloons in a specific direction, but they can control them up and down.

There are four (4) hot air balloon manufacturers in the world:
  • ▪ Cameron Balloons (England),
  • ▪ Ultramagic Balloons (Spain),
  • ▪ Kubicek Balloons (Czech Republic) and
  • ▪ Pasha Balloons (Turkey).
Phrygia Balloons fleet consists mostly of hot air balloons manufactured by Pasha Balloons.

In Phrygia Valley, hot air balloons mostly fly just before and after sunrise. Departure times vary between 05:00 and 07:00 depending on the season. Depending on the suitability of weather conditions, occasional afternoon flights are also organized during the winter season.

Since hot air balloons are not equipped with a steering mechanism, pilots cannot land at a specific location. When the pilot completes the one-hour flight mission, they begin to look for a suitable place to land, taking into account the distance and altitude from the balloon. Once a landing point is determined, the pilot begins to lower the balloon for landing by cooling the air inside the balloon.

All hot air balloon flights in Phrygia Valley are carried out under the control of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Turkey. Hot air balloon companies are not given the right or authority to decide whether weather conditions allow flying. After a thorough weather check, Civil Aviation determines whether hot air balloons can fly or not.

To reduce air traffic, Turkish Civil Aviation controls the frequency and timing of air balloon flights in Phrygia Valley. Turkish Civil Aviation defines a set of pre-agreed departure times within which air balloon companies are allowed to schedule a flight. There is a 30 minute difference between the first and second flight. The first flight usually refers to a sunrise flight while the second flight is known as a late morning flight.

Children under the age of 6 are not allowed to participate in hot air balloon flights. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. You must be at least 1.3m tall and be able to take a landing position when necessary.

You can change your morning pickup location the day before your flight by sending an email to info@phrygiaballoons.com. Please note that your new address must be in the Phrygia region and Afyonkarahisar province.

If the date you want to reschedule your original flight is during peak season, a small additional charge may be charged. Please note that booking changes are subject to seat availability.
